    If anything it is the SEO guys who are fixing google, the amount of times I have searched online to find sites on page 1 and 2 that are dead or are one page sites from the 80′s that are there purely due to being registered way back at year dot when the internet started.

    As long as SEOs are taking on clients who want to provide good content that is going to help the consumer, then it is a win-win.

    To me at the end of the day, content is key. There’s no way SEO’s can run Google this is a common mistake clients make. The best way around this is to teach client what it is SEO’s do and what to expect.

    you gotta be kidding me? SEO’s are just working within the bounds of the algorythm.

    The may understand it better than the average Joe, and be able to exploit its weaknesses, but that’s google’s problem to deal with.

    That’s like saying drivers are ruining the roads.

    I think it depends on the phrase you are searching. In the financial sector, almost all of the page 1-2 links are active and thriving.

    Once you start searching for off-the-wall stuff like acre-berries (or whatever that is), you do see some broken links.

    But is that a problem with Google’s algorithm or caused by SEO’s. If my car were built out of glass, I know the car makers would find a way to say it was my fault. “You are not supposed to hit other cars.” When it would be the car makers themselves using bad engineering that would be the root cause. A flaw is a flaw and has nothing to do with the user.

    Some SEO techniques hurt Google, but most of them are blackhat techniques. Some sites have ‘search pages’ based on what you searched for on google, and these come at the top; however, none of the results are relevant :(

    It’s mostly niches that are hit though.

    And there’s always the Google bomb!

    When you talk SEO you need to talk “white hat” versus “black hat” seo techniques. SEOs in general cannot ruin Google, but the poor website owners who do not know any better who end up hiring an SEO who practices black hat seo will end up having their website ruined by these tactics. And there are a lot of Black hat SEO’s out there that claim to be White hat, so watch out.
