About 100 years ago, you would have to wait for a newspaper to get the news or go to the library to look up information. And the information you found was limited to the reach of your local newspaper and the amount of books your library could afford to carry. Another option was to be where the news happened or go to a city with a bigger library.

One of the reasons I don’t post as often as I used to here is social networks. Another reason is that not writing one day starts a trend. It may take 21 days to build a habit but it only takes a couple to break it. Hey, but Twitter makes up for, in one way. Not really, but I like to tell myself that. I guess if I write 40 tweets a day, that’s the equivalent of one post.

SocialToo – Why Do People Follow You on Twitter?

I remember starting out with Twitter a few months ago. I had made fun of it up to that. Had no use for it. But then I read an interview of a blogger, can’t remember who know. And he said that joining Twitter was the best thing he ever did to promote his blog.

So I decided to give it a try. It took a while. The “What are you doing?” question is very deceptive. If all of your 140 character tweets answer this same question, you are missing out on some valuable uses: brain farts, things found online, blog post notices, pet peeves and the list goes on.

Narrowing Down My Networks

You see the WTFMO widget on the side of my blog. It’s a scam. For a while there I was signing up for everything like a maniac. Not that that is a bad thing. It is good to stake your claim on a few social networks. In fact, I have heard it said you should, before an imposter pops in and claims your username before you can get it. Not that anyone would want to impersonate me, but it’s a nice pipe dream.

It is hard enough to write at times and then you have to do all of the above also. Well, maybe not all of the above, but at least some of it. Unless, of course, you want to be your blog’s only subscriber.

The First Day

Okay, I think I am much more put together today. I meant to get a nap in all day yesterday after checking out the 4 block radius around my room. I put some pictures up in Flickr. It seems that there are as many cranes here as there are casinos.

I didn’t manage to take the nap until 5:30 in the evening. And I basically slept through until 4:30am today. But I am ready to go now. Sleep deprivation has a way of making a person edgy, unorganized, and a little bit moody. Not a good state.
