JD Salinger, Blog Stickiness and How to Disappear from an Active Site

And there I go again, writing what I want to call an SEO blog and then putting a title on this post that guarantees nothing. But I am currently a self-supporting SEO (i.e not looking for clients) so who gives a shit if my posts here rank for anything. So I can disappear like J. D. Salinger for periods of time and really not care too much about it. There are just other things to do and I write this blog for shits and grins now. I just linked to fricken Wikipedia, for crying out loud. That’s because I am lazy and don’t want to explain shit. And, damn it, I like cutesy titles and mixing unrelated topics together and seeing what comes out on the other end. It’s called analogy. So I figured I could at least be nice enough to define things a bit. I can do SEO on the other sites that make money and just shoot the shit here.

Some WordPress SEO Thoughts

I lay awake at night thinking of things like this. Not long. A few minutes or so. Sometimes I get an idea when I am driving. Sometimes I write the ideas down. Sometimes I see if they will pop back up on their own. The ones that do get focus. But I always give them a little freedom. That way they can tell their friends that I am a good home. And then I wait on the friends.

Looking at Links

LinksThere is more than one way to get traffic to your blog. I see a lot of emphasis placed on what I consider dynamic links. This is traffic from commenting on blogs that use nofollow, getting stumbled, getting your site on Digg and the like. These type of links depending on someone physically clicking the link to get to your site. This is a great source of traffic and deserves just as much attention as any, but I think that using it at your only source of traffic is limiting.

Traffic Update

I mean to keep these a regular monthly thing at this blog until I can start doing income updates. Right now that is not worth mentioning. Once this theme is done, I will turn my focus on trying to get more money out of this blog. I have had some results from Widgetbucks and the Text Link Ads Inlinks plugin and both can only increase with traffic. I have yet to use any paid review system, still tossing the idea around. I have no ads on my feeds as of yet. But I hardly know all the options yet with new ad systems launching daily.

The Traffic is Picking Up Slowly

About a month ago, I decided to cut out the B.S. and start writing every day, except for Sundays. I am not religious. That is just an agreement I have made with my family not to open this laptop one day out of the week. It doesn’t mean I don’t write. Sometimes I do in a notebook I keep for the purpose. At first, I though this day off plan would mess things off. After a few weeks of it, I see the benefits. No tunnel vision and more drive to do this stuff. I wake up on Monday morning ready to go. But on with the results in traffic.
