518690_magazines_2 I subscribe to a few magazines. Any magazine that is totally devoted to the Internet is hard to find. When I find one, I subscribe. The internet to me is almost a blur of information. I process it quickly, absorb enough and move on.

It is nice to be able to sit in a chair and read an actual book or magazine. I actually find myself reading magazines like Revenue cover to cover, ads and all. I am pretty much blind to online banners for the most part.

Internet Writing Practice

Writing BooksWriting Down the Bones

If you have not read this book, do so now. It was written by Natalie Goldberg. It will change your attitude about writing and is my backpack, wherever I go. Does writer’s block happen? Is it a cop out? The answers don’t really matter when you are facing a blank page and your fingers refuse to move. Or on those days you are sure you could write, but no idea seems right.

A List of Top Blog Lists

Posted by & filed under Commenting, Feeds.

I cover a lot of topics and read a lot of blogs. Up until recently, I had them all in one folder in my feed reader. Then I broke them up into folders. That took some thought and until then, I really had no idea what all my interests are. After that two hour organizing session, a lot of things became more clearer. I saw what I liked listed by topic. After that, I was able to create a few filters for each of my blogs. Now, if I’m in commenting mode, I just go down the river of articles in each filter. I have only headlines showing and open all the links in my browser. It is training me on writing better headlines and opening the link in the browser means I don’t have to retype everything when I go to comment.

No More Banners Here

I decided to take the banners off the site. They didn’t help with the view. And unless my traffic increases exponentially here soon, I am not going to lose any money by doing it. What I am going to do is not look so much like a walking billboard.

Some clothes make you look like a billboard. And you pay a premium.

Cars don’t come without the car maker’s logo.

But no one owns this blog, but me. So, no ads.

Positioning Images and Javascript in Blog Posts

I wrote HTML before they really made any good editors for it, back in the old days of 64 colors or however many there were back then. Tables were the only option. You could place something anywhere you wanted to in a page as long as it was in the center, on the right or on the left. And fonts. Forget fonts. A manual typewriter had better fonts.

Back to Writing

The books and web pages I read affect me a lot. I use them as tools sometimes. If I read a book on productivity, I become more productive while I am reading it. If I read a book on digital photography, I see pictures everywhere. If I read a book on design, I notice every logo and sign. The knowledge sticks with me afterwards, but the act of reading keeps it in the forefront of my mind.

And, if I read about programming and computers, I become a robot and start writing really shitty articles.Robot
