For the last year or so, I have visited Digg randomly or rarely. I tried Digg for a while, but always felt I was posting in the wrong category. So I only visited when others asked for it. And then a few weeks ago, I got a notice that someone was following so I went to login and the login didn’t work.

So now I am signing up for Digg Alpha so I can paste 6a597fd2647d468bbfe408607517b7b8 here and get it in my feed to verify my site. Nice trick, Digg. But it is pretty cool that from now on, my posts will automatically be sent to you.

But I have to say that signing up was easy. First put in your username, password, and email address in the form. You are then taken to page much like the “who to follow” page in Twitter and you can choose popular new diggisens to follow by Topic. After you are done there, you are taken to a page to connect your Digg account with Your Twitter, Facebook and Google Accounts.I simultaneously clicked the three buttons to connect to Twitter, Facebook and Google just see if all three would run at once and yes, yes they did. Which brought me 117 people to follow on the new Digg.

Now I can separate what is popular on digg from what is popular from people I follow.

And after you digg a few stories, your profile looks like this. And there are only a few stories, for real. Pretty crazy move. Everyone sign up again, wipe out all the history, start from scratch.

I don’t remember the last time I logged into my Digg account. My experience with Digg was very similar to yours. I was actually banned from Digg in the past. After creating a new account my interest in the site never was the same. These new features are definitely worth exploring. Thanks for sharing!

“I tried Digg for a while, but always felt I was posting in the wrong category. So I only visited when others asked for it.” exactly my situation but i never figure out how to improve in it and i never got some good results from digg as well. thanks for sharing this i think this gonna help me

I don’t really like the new Digg. I’m used to see the most popular contents of the day. Now they simply took it away and show instead what your friends like…

I’ve rarely ever used Digg, as like you, I’ve only been to it once in a great while.

Just curious though, and maybe you can shed some light on this, but what is the differences between Digg and Digg Alpha?

  5. Jaygirl

just hearing of this dig alpha. i would check it out today. i think its a good innovation. Digg hasnt really brought me much trafffic though, so i hardly hardly ever go there,

I heard the other day Kevin Rose, the digg founder talking about the new digg version. Like you I also haven’t used digg too must. I can definitely see the potencial of the new digg for traffic generation.

Thank you for the heads up about the new digg.
I just receive the VIP invitation. I wish this new digg will be better then the old one and esy for a new blogger like me.

Digg was like a revolution waiting to happen when it first became a rage. Imagine getting all the updates going on all over the world being updated on a sing integrated site. That sounds awesome.

Thanks Stephan, I didn’t know that there was a new digg on the way. Hopefully, GG is my friend so finding invite was easy. I now follow you by the way, my way to say thanks!

I have to agree with Jaygirl – I haven’t heard of Digg before now and apart from getting a load of social media it doesn’t seem to really drive the necessary traffic. What are the benefits of signing up with dig and after doing all the following stuff?

  11. Traduceri

I’ve submitted to digg a handful of times myself. So, I’m still getting the hang of it. But so far I haven’t cracked its secrets. My most successful story has only gotten 5 diggs–whether I’ve had the button or not.

It is a fascinating and powerful tool though. Once you get it figured out.

I tried Digg for the first time in months today and noticed they had a clunky new layout… also, it wasn’t working, but I assume they’re still working out bugs.

just audition of this dig alpha. i would analysis it out today. i anticipate its a acceptable innovation. Digg hasnt absolutely brought me abundant trafffic though, so i hardly hardly anytime go there,

I am using digg for digging my articles. It is a great way to share them with my friends. Now you have written about digg alpha. I will try to use Digg Alpha. Hope it will be great.

Hiya, I was reading one more point about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically contradicted from what I read earlier. I’m nonetheless pondering in the opposite things of view, but I’m leaning to a great extent toward yours. And irrespective, which is what’s so perfect about modern day democracy as well as the industry of ideas online.

The new Digg looks great much more what I think it should be like, with the social media wars going on they may just come out on top. Which would be nice to be involved with one not being bought out or going under for once..

  17. guitar rick

I’ll have to try this new piece out. I’m like you and really haven’t gotten much out of Digg in the past. Nice idea, but just never delivered what I wanted. This update may finally have some promise.

  18. Hotel Finder

Hasn’t Digg’s day in the sun passed? As an SEO tool it pretty limited. Its either zero traffic or if you hit it lucky it kills your server/hosting. Unless I’m missing something…

  19. mytocents

I tryed Digg once now that i read this article i will have to go back and really check it out maybe give it another chance

  20. Anderson

Thanks for these tips… I had been looking for how to separate what is popular on Digg generally from what is popular with my friends specifically. I also like the integration with Google, Facebook, and Twitter. I will check it out.

  21. Engagement Ring

When I first signed up for Digg, I was on there all the time. It’s completely addicting. But then I got busy and forgot to visit! The last time I went back, I really didn’t like the way it was running. I think I might give your suggestion a try and start from scratch.

  23. Darth Continent

I hadn’t logged on to Digg in forever, then just recently did to check out the site.

Horrible, at least for me. It could be that my AdBlock Plus in Firefox might be blocking some page elements that the “new” Digg needs in order to perform seemingly basic tasks, like let me submit links or update my profile (tasks which seemed occasionally to error out on me).

The layout seems a bit too blocky, I enjoyed the previous layout somewhat more for leaving less useless whitespace on my screen. They’d do well to follow Reddit’s example and let the text fill out the width of my browser window.

  24. stainless steel water bottle

I am really not too certain that the new Digg v4 was thought out properly. There seem to be a lot of bugs and even Kevin Rose himself made comments on the Diggnation podcast about the problems. They also fired the head developer already. The worst part is that they can’t rollback!

  25. LEARN BLOGGING

I am new to blogger blog, I tried to sign up for digg account but one thing that I dont understand is, why do I get a message saying “this is an application” Then I have to choose whether to “save” or “open” the file while trying to login to digg? Thanks for sharing
