SEO Is About To Change

SEO Is About To Change
While focus on keywords has been the law of the searchland, SEO professionals will have to more diligently and acutely focus on the end user - every unique end user - mulling scenarios, personalities, and motivations, which makes SEO more akin to traditional marketing, where a firm grasp of psychological concepts is as necessary as the technical acuity of keyword targeting.
This is a great article on rolling with the punches when it comes to SEO. I knew SEO would eventually become based more on marketing statistics than on search engine algorithms. But then again, there [...] Continue Reading…

Pagebull

Pagebull - Enter search query

Not sure of the business model of these smaller search engines but every now and then you run into one that has something unique, but in the company of bigger search engines, it’s hard to tell how they will survive.

This is a totally visual search engine with huge snapshots of each of the pages. It definitely gives you an indication of where you are going before you click on a link.

Now 236 sites in my social bookmarking list

These lists I have built have become the most visited pages on my site. I have updates for all of them and just haven’t got around to it. I updated my list of social bookmarking sites to 236 today. I have a list of over 1000 directory sites and 500 article sites I still have to go through.

Dreamhost is a dream host

Killed one of my databases today. Tried to migrate it to my home computer. Crashed the sucker. Boom, site gone, over 100,000 entries.

I had backups from over a week ago. But just to check, I went to the Dreamhost MySql control panel and found a choice of database backups I could restore. One was from 14 hours ago. Good enough. 5 minutes later and my site is back.

And you can get up to $80 off of any hosting plan by entering HALFOFFNOWPLEASE in the promo code field. That means you can get a year of hosting, unlimited domains for [...] Continue Reading…

Netvibes ecosystem

Netvibes ecosystem - Customize and share your netvibes experience
I had no idea netvibes had become so complex. Might have to give it a try again. I want to find some site like Rojo that could work like a feed mixer, sorting all of my feeds by newness of each seperate entry, but that loads quickly, unlike Rojo. I would be great if I could give priority to certain feeds, so that over time, I could tweak these feeds to rank higher in the mix than their newness qualifies them for.
Bloglot used to do this for me, until it almost crashed [...] Continue Reading…

A Directory of Google Custom Search Engines

I am really hyped about this Google Custom Search Engine thing. It can become better than DMOZ in that it will have search capabilities. Hand picked sites from people you trust. A those who create the best search engines will get the most traffic.

 Why?

Because people are tired of spam.

So I created a directory of Google Custom Search Engines to list these new sites. It’s not pretty right now, but I will get to that.

Promoting Your Google Custom Search with IE7

Here is way to get users come back to your Google Custom Search engine. Ask them to add your site to their IE7 search provdiers list.

Guide To Custom Search Engines (CSEs)

Guide To Custom Search Engines (CSEs)

A spin on what I mentioned in my last post. Basically a directory of Google custom search engines. It could be a great link baiting technique to build useful custom search engines. I know I would bookmark a few. Just take your bookmarks and create a search engine for each folder or tag and you basically have a very usefull targeted search engine. I know I would bookmark a few if I could get past all the spam.

Google Co-op - Custom Search Engine

Google Co-op - Custom Search Engine

It seems that Google has released a search engine that you can customize to the sites that interest you. You can then integrate this search engine into your site. Their seems to be revenue sharing in ads similiar to the current Adsense search addition.

Can this lead to a search brokering industry where you directly pay website owners for adding you to their own customized search. That would seem to be a more effective marketing technique than opting to buy ads through Adwords. That’s just my two cents though.
