Social Tools in My Toolbox

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Social Media| Web 2.0

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is a incomplete, random list of tools I use with social networks. Not that I know what I am doing quite yet with social networks. It will take a while. I am just an app, software, and addon junky. So I look for software all the time and usually find something. Be sure and add your own in comments. I will probably try all of them.

First, I would like to invite all of you to Social Median, a different sort of network. It works like Digg, because stories can be "clipped" and commented on. It works like FriendFeed [...] Continue Reading…

atomkeep - for online multiple personality disorder

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Findings| Internet

Capitalization is a dying, so what the hell. I am not sure what that indicates. But I went with it. They don’t capitalize, so I won’t.

I have a lot of online profiles. Every now and then I run into a new one. Not new really, just forgotten. Unless a site is brand new, chances are, I might have a profile there. So, first I try to log in. And if it works, who knows the person I will find in my profile. He might live in Kansas City, Phoenix, or Lawrence, Kansas. He may be single or married. He [...] Continue Reading…

How to Get a Tech Job with a G.E.D

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Ecommerce| Internet| Journal

I have never been one to hold a job for long. I don’t have a degree. About two years was my limit. It has not been the pay as much as the boredom. Once I could do the job in my sleep, there was not much keeping me there. The internet has been the only thing that has held my interest for this long.

And the degree thing. I am still sure to this day that if I would have had a degree, it would have been the same. I would have spent four or more years to get [...] Continue Reading…

Writing Every Day

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Journal| Writing

I do work in a lot of different areas on teh internets. And each job I do has different effects on my mind. I have to enter that job’s mind mode for a short or long period of time. I like writing mode but it is one of the hardest to come back to. Not sure why. It always has been.

When I was around 14, I picked up "Writing Down the Bones" by Natalie Goldberg. It’s a book on writing practice. A musician will play hundreds of songs in practice for every one he plays on stage. A boxer [...] Continue Reading…

Single Tasking is Hard To Do

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Journal| Writing| ZTD

Doing one thing at a time. It’s a nice concept and may seem easy, but I guess it depends on how you handle things. I know it works. I know the sense of accomplishment that comes with actually finishing something. But that does not stop me from getting caught in the whirlwind of multitasking.

The computer is a mind trapping machine. I bounce from thought to thought, task to task, until I get about 50 things half done and nothing completed. When I do a lot at once, I make myself look like I am getting a lot of work [...] Continue Reading…

A Random Walk Through Wordpress Plugins

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Wordpress

Wordpress plugins don’t stop coming. My initial idea with this blog was to build a set of plugins and then once I thought I was set, download the plugin folder and use it for my other blogs. But, like I said, the cool plugins keep on coming.

So today I took a random walk though the Wordpress plugin repository just to see what’s up. No search terms. Just some browsing. And here are some cool plugins I found.

Ad-Minister

A complex ad serving and content plugin. It supports ad-rotation, scheduling, and works with widgets.

Sniplets

A plugin that will automatically insert things in your [...] Continue Reading…

The Ultimate DoFollow Blog List

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Blogging| Commenting| Feeds| Linking| SEO| Wordpress

I figured I had to go over the top with this one. Not quite sure if I have. You tell me.
I have been using Fast Blog Finder to find dofollow blog posts for me. It helps and then it doesn’t. I don’t spam. I like getting beneficial links back to my site. I use tools like this because they simplify the process. But sometimes the posts are a little bit old. And I am not quite sure of the etiquette involved. Is an older post OK to comment on? I could see refering to it from a blog post. [...] Continue Reading…

A List of Top Blog Lists

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Commenting| Feeds

I cover a lot of topics and read a lot of blogs. Up until recently, I had them all in one folder in my feed reader. Then I broke them up into folders. That took some thought and until then, I really had no idea what all my interests are. After that two hour organizing session, a lot of things became more clearer. I saw what I liked listed by topic. After that, I was able to create a few filters for each of my blogs. Now, if I’m in commenting mode, I just go down the river of [...] Continue Reading…

No More Banners Here

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Advertising| Journal

I decided to take the banners off the site. They didn’t help with the view. And unless my traffic increases exponentially here soon, I am not going to lose any money by doing it. What I am going to do is not look so much like a walking billboard.

Some clothes make you look like a billboard. And you pay a premium.

Cars don’t come without the car maker’s logo.

But no one owns this blog, but me. So, no ads.

I did accept one paid post in this blog’s lifetime. It was for a product that I was going to write about [...] Continue Reading…

On Getting Advice

Posted by: User ImageStephan Miller In: Journal| ZTD

It is good to live with someone you trust to tell you that you are being stupid. Of course, part of the deal is actually listening when that person says you are.

I am not good as hearing that I am wrong. I do not take it well. In fact, it usually is fuel for me to go in the opposite direction.

But for a lot of the stuff I do, I can only trust my opinion and experience. I can pick up a few pointers here and there from forums and blogs. But when I am done there, it is [...] Continue Reading…
