A Twitter Machine

I must admit I can’t help. I see one technology and try to attach it to another. And then another and another. I originally learned to program so I could create things. But now all I really have to do is look around for tools that work well together.

I have had my first Twitter account for over a year now and just topped 1600 subscribers. With that account, I tweet things and go through new followers and follow anyone that interests me, manually. I rarely go looking for people for follow. My second Twitter account is a few months old and had less than 200 subscribers, so I tried an experiment. But let me show you the results first.

Twitter has changed search and has also changed the meaning of the term “up-to-date”. This is no longer waiting until the next scheduled news cast. And forget the newspaper. Even Google is not that fast. And who needs to read a whole page when you can get the gist of what’s going on in 140 characters. Alright, I went to far with the last one. Reading is good and something I wish I had more time for, but my mission to carry a library around in my head is doomed to failure.

The Changes at Bloghology Social Network

Despite being immersed in the internet for 12 hours a day at times, I am not quite sure of the definition of a social network. Some are for bookmarks, some for articles and some for liking and commenting. My definition now is a site that I don’t own and I can put stuff on. What makes it social is that other people can see it. I was going to add “and interact”, but I don’t think that is necessarily a common denominator.

How do I write about my products? I have built a lot of different sites for a lot of different people and this question always comes up. I’m not quite sure why. Some of these people had had brick and mortar stores for years But somehow when it comes to writing about their products, they draw a blank.

And I can understand that. Most people don’t like to write. And if that’s the issue, I can understand that. But don’t tell me you don’t have anything to say about your product.

“You can’t comment on that post. It’s two months old. It will look like spam.”

“Damn! A year old, can’t like that one. It is so last year.”

“Shoot! That software looks a lot better than the program I am currently using. Time to try it even though I have only used the other program for a week.”

Over the last weekend I downloaded some desktop meta-search software. I haven’t used software like this in a few years, ever since Google got a bit better at finding the sites I needed. What it does is grab the search results from multiple search engines at the same time and present them to you.

Your duties as a blogger may get confusing after a bit. Initially, you may have started with a simple plan of posting every day and leaving 10 comments on other blogs each day. My little trip into blogging started that easily.

Eventually you will run into a lot of things that may help your blog and you will try them out. I did that also. Wow, a little bit of extra work can go a long way.
