When I started in internet marketing, that’s what we called in back in the olden days, I was all about getting paid. And 5 internet years is equal to about 2 dog years which comes out to about 7 human years. So, I got it right, 5 years ago was the olden days. Now when I hear the term "internet marketing", I do get a creepy vibe, like I just opened my self up for spam and autosurfing sites that were built with 90′s design, 8 colors and a table.
I wanted to get this post in, because there is not much information on this subject around the net, but I also wanted to stay with the theme of the blog. Follow along to see how I do. If you are reading for blogging tips, continue.
Have you ever searched and searched on Google for a subject and just never found your answer. Try this. Try that. Try the next. Then you find the answer by accident a few days later.
This was a lot easier than I thought. In fact, I was prepared for a hour of messing with the router. I am not a network guy. I play with it until something works, but in playing, I have picked up a few things. Filemaker is a great piece of software. So much so that I have scratched my plan on working on a better UI for MySql to track my affiliate marketing business and went straight to Filemaker. And I never would have discovered Filemaker if I hadn’t have got a job with an ecommerce company that uses only Mac’s. I say this, typing away on a Dell. I have a love affair with the Mac for a few months, but back to Windows. Still use Filemaker though.
I have found other conversion tools online but most have limits on the size of the file you can can convert. And others only convert limited file types. After searching for a way to convert an Microsoft Access mdb file to a format I could import into Filemaker, I found this site. Easy. A 39 MB .mdb file converted to excel in about 15 minutes.
This is the usual trend in my blog. These periods where I don’t post are when I am heavy into developing either sites or software and now that my day job almost mirrors my sidejob. Then I come back with some info that I think is awesome. Of course, it could be common knowledge to most developers with a formal education. But I learned as I went and used what I needed at the time. This leaves quite a few gaps in my education.
Using the following xsl stylesheet and software like xmlpad, you can convert the Clickbank Marketplace xml into a tab delimited file. I choose tab delimited because the descriptions may have commas which would mess with an comma delimited choice.
I finally came up with the stylesheet while trying to transform the xml file into an xml suitable for import into Filemaker. I came close, but think I am having issues with the elements that have cdata. But who knows Filemaker basically says your import is screwed and not much more information. And what you can find on the web is sparse.
