How do I write about my products? I have built a lot of different sites for a lot of different people and this question always comes up. I’m not quite sure why. Some of these people had had brick and mortar stores for years But somehow when it comes to writing about their products, they draw a blank.

And I can understand that. Most people don’t like to write. And if that’s the issue, I can understand that. But don’t tell me you don’t have anything to say about your product.

We have too many products and all of our vendors just doubled their lines. First let me warn you, “entry level” means “entry level”. If you just can’t handle working at a convenience store, then apply. If you have a lot of education and experience, you will laugh.

Attacking and Defending Your E-commerce Niche

This was the slide show from my presentation at Highlight Midwest.  really enjoyed the unconference and can’t wait for the next.

Past E-commerce Posts

Although I have been an affiliate marketer and SEO for years, I have learned a lot more about e-commerce specifically in the last two and a half years. That is the reason why these posts may overlap or contradict each other (see slide #2 – Strategies are like belief systems).

How to Get a Tech Job with a G.E.D

Posted by & filed under Ecommerce, Internet, Journal.

DiplomaI have never been one to hold a job for long. I don’t have a degree. About two years was my limit. It has not been the pay as much as the boredom. Once I could do the job in my sleep, there was not much keeping me there. The internet has been the only thing that has held my interest for this long.

And the degree thing. I am still sure to this day that if I would have had a degree, it would have been the same. I would have spent four or more years to get a job writing obituaries for the local news or writing the same algorithm over and over in my cubicle. But I would have been paid more and been stuck longer because of it.

What the Hell Happened to My Ecommerce Posts

Posted by & filed under Ecommerce.

I rank pretty high for specific terms when it comes to ecommerce, even though I haven’t written a post in a while. I have learned a lot through running an ecommerce site. In fact, it has helped with my blogging and internet marketing more than you can imagine and vice versa.

I am surprised at how many techniques and methods to promote sites don’t cross boundaries. Bloggers have proprietary methods. Ecommerce webmasters have proprietary methods. Old school internet marketers have proprietary methods. I just refused to see the lines and used what worked. So if you don’t have an ecommerce site, this post may help you anyway. One of the best ways to make inroads in a industry is refuse to play by the rules and bring some rules from related ones. Make your mantra "use what works" rather than "this is how it’s done".

Taking Pictures for the Web

Here I am opening my big mouth again waiting for the real photographers to come along and prove me wrong. But when you are trying to get products online quickly, there is really no time to wait around for a photographer or Photoshop expert to do everything perfectly.

I have taken over 1000 pictures over the last year. It’s part of the daily grind at All About Doors. Some of the products have never been put online. This is the reason why much of our photographs get hotlinked and show up in Google images first, even though we have never really optimized the images.
