Getting Unstuck

Posted by & filed under Blogging, Family, Journal, Writing.

I have said many times before that I don’t get writer’s block. No, I just have days where anything I type turns magically into crap right before my eyes and no matter how much I beat it with a stick, it still is not that great.

There are days when I can write article after article and post after post. Unfortunately, about the biggest chunk of time I get to do this stuff is two or three hours and if I want that, I have to wait for the weekend.

Snow Day

Yesterday was a snow day for me. I spent most of Saturday evening on the laptop watching the snow fall outside. It wasn’t done when I went to bed.

The kids have been inside most of this winter. Who wants to go outside when there isn’t even snow to make up for the cold. So yesterday I went to the store to get some new sleds. The old ones had been used as wheelless wagons during the summer and weren’t sliding that great on the snow. It took stopping at two or three stores to find one that wasn’t all sold out.

Money Lubricates the Mind

I thought of this post while taking a shower. Then I thought I wouldn’t post it. It goes totally against the background I come from as a child. "Money is the root of all evil". But I have only made it to the place I have in life my tearing apart those long held beliefs that were drilled into my living in a strictly religious house when I was a kid. And this is one that is hard to break. There is a little guilt. And maybe still some fear. But living back in the area I grew up in after not being here for many years, I have to break it to survive.

The Missouri Edumacation System

Don’t move here. That’s all I can say. And if you are here, you probably can’t read this anyway. Missouri is a welfare state. Seventy percent of the kids that go to my daughter’s school get free lunch. That means that their parents couldn’t afford a dollar a day to feed their kids. These are the same people who drive up in SUV’s and probably have cable.

I work two jobs. This one here, as Stephan Miller, and 7-4 four days a week at allaboutdoors.com. My neighborhood does not wake up when I do. There are no cars moving when I go to work because no one here has a job. Welfare and disability pays more.
