Think Secret - Apple, Think Secret settle lawsuit

Because Apple likes throwing there weight around and beating up the little guy.

I am a little late posting today, but hey I found this story to feed one of my pet peeves, hating Mac’s.

Oh, yeah, Apple started out all starry-eyed and pot addled. The computer for the granola freaks. But what is this, they like pushing the little guy around. They like pushing bloggers around. Are they big business hiding behind an "American Dream" past. Damn straight.

Just for that I am going to figure out more creative ways to throw a Mac out the window and maybe I’ll put a mock turtleneck on it and give it a sharpie created 5 o’clock shadow before I do.

Shame on you, Apple.

My God Stephan, I kind of agree, but you’re going to have the wrath of the ‘creatives’ - I think they sleep with their Macs, lol

Awe, screw the creatives. They only use a Mac because they can’t handle the PC. You got to piss off someone. I just pick a big target. LOL

This is a disclaimer. I am not dissing Granola freaks or pot addled people here. I like Granola and I will refrain from commenting right there.

Fair play! (although I have to admit to being a fan of the ipod touch) - don’t call me Satan!

Sorry but i’m new to this site and haven’t had the time to read through your posts, but can i ask why you hate Mac’s so much and why do you feel Apple pick on the little guy. Who is the little guy?

Because I believe it’s fair play. They want to run the commercials. I will fight them with my tiny little blog. I use a Mac 9 hours a day for 4 days a week. I also use a PC. I think I have a valid opinion.

They aren’t the better computer, just like Harley isn’t the best motorcycle. Marketing doesn’t make it true.

They aren’t the better computer. A Mac is a computer with training wheels.

Mac is to Computers as AOL is to the Internet.

Nice for newbies, but when I really want to get some work done, give me the real thing.

Yep it’s certainly good to have your own opinion after all this is your floor and i appreciate you letting me ask the questions.

I’m sorry for appearing a bit slow here but when you talk about commercials, you mean the latest ipod, iphone, itunes and mac commercials? And isn’t a Mac a PC?

Your beef must be the with operating system yes/no? You know the old OSX v XP arguments.

I’ve been using Mac and Windows based hardware since the 286 and the Apple II and i must admit that Apple seem to have made the most progress. Certainly easier to use for me, nicer looking graphics and overall more pleasing on the eye, a touch expensive but there you go.

Microsoft just don’t seem to be moving forward or innovating like they used to, not sure why that is, but in this business if you leave any slack someone else is just going to take it up.

It’s not healthy to have one really big player dominating the market and crushing the competition, like Microsoft have done in the 80’s/90’s .
I certainly don’t want to see Apple doing a Microsoft, although i can’t see that ever happening again, well as far as computing is concerned anyway. But i think Apple’s move to go Intel and encourage XP to run alongside OSX on their hardware is a no brainer. I now run both XP and Leopard on my iMac and that save’s me both time, office space and IT now has spare hardware.

Surely Apple deserve Kudo’s for that

I mean the Mac versus PC commercials, where Mac makes false claims under the guise of comedy when all it is is false claims.

Like I said, marketing does not make a good product. It’s part of what I do, marketing. It’s what Harley does with their motorcycles which are more expensive that just about any other bike, but I know firsthand they are crap and slow crap at that. So the price tag on Mac is just them paying off the advertising and charging for the hype.

I do a lot with a computer from programing to graphics to just about everything. When it comes to programming, Mac needs some work. I am more IT than anything else and I don’t know how anyone writes or find software for a Mac.

Graphics and design can mask a lot. I can take a rock and paint it red, but it does not mean it’s a ruby.

Have you ever tried to import and export mysql dumps and then have to mess with the format just to get MySql to recognize it. Or uploaded a whole site from a Mac just to find out that it messed up all the linefeeds.

Those are just issues from this week. I could go back to last week.

lol…only so many ways to throw it out the window ;), or is there *evil grin*; I just dislike how they attempt to market to people that are smarter or more ‘new age’ than pc users

Ah i only just saw the link at the top of the page. I think i understand your angle now.

The Think Secret lawsuit was bad karma from Apple. Mind you i’m a regular reader of rumour sites and i find a lot of the content rather amusing.

I think a lot of the time Apple release snippets to the rumour sites just to keep up the interest, although somebody at Apple felt they’d over stepped the mark. They can’t have it all ways and i guess we’ll never know the truth.

There’s certainly a growing trend with big companies wanting brand protection. But their not going to win that one.

Still it’s not a reason to hate Apple surely?

I watched Dodgeball last night and almost turned it off. The Mac guy was in it. I hate that guy. I wish he would choke on his prefaded clothes. I hope he’s typecast by the commercial enough to never be in another film.

Matt,

The ironic part is that it doesn’t take IQ to use a Mac it takes more to use a PC. The question is, is something that is easier to use actually better.

I have written software before and used a lot of software. The more robust the software, the steeper the learning curve, but that is because it can do more once you learn it. If you start with easy, that’s all you can do.

Another thing. We have the big Mac in the office, the 27″ with Leopard or Retard or Pussycat or whatever the new system is. It takes gigs of memory just run Leopard. That shows brute force systems use, at least in my book.

Yeah i know where your coming from there. I’m a programmer, SEO, SEM and i dabble in graphics, like you have to, and i do it all on a Mac. I admit it has been a pain at times as it’s a windows world in our game, but 90% of the time i get by. I think the problems i stumble on are when a CMS is windows-centric (Active-X) and the like, but things are certainly changing.

I’m also seeing a growing trend in my field where developers are making the switch. In my experience most programmers love the Mac but can’t consider the platform because decisions are made for them at a higher level. Still there making the switch.

I think it just comes down to a matter of preference really. Most of this was meant in good humor. But another instance of Apple’s stomping whoever gets in their way:

But Mac enthusiasts just don’t seem to realize.

You have to admit though, Apple is smart. I am inclined to believe that they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They promote themselves as this altruistic group..but really, they are there to make money. That being said, I would still take a mac if someone bought me one…I just don’t think it would replace my pc. I wrote a post about reasons why I don’t own a mac last month.

Don’t let anyone tell you that the “creatives” can’t live without their Macs. I’ve been in the graphic design field for over 10 years and I’ve seen about 75% of my peers switch to PC. There’s a lot of factors involved but a major one is the fact that Apple no longer caters to the professional designer/artist. They pitch more of a “buy this and you’ll instantly be creative”. Computers should be an artistic tool, not a crutch.

ses,

That’s the main reason I wrote the post. Hating Mac’s just added to the fuel.

Jason,

Well, it’s good to hear that I’m not alone in this. I just don’t see the plus side to a Mac.
