Kombucha Tea

Kombucha Tea

This weekend I haven't been around the net much. I actually got out with the love of my life. We got a babysitter. And went over to Overland Park, Kansas in search of cheap electronics and better food. The last time was a "starving artists" art sale. Well, we didn't find the electronics liquidation sale, but we did get some food and books.

In Phoenix, you could find whatever you wanted to find. They had a natural foods store there called Sprouts. Nothing of the sort here. So we crossed over to Kansas.  We ate lunch before shopping. I thought what I got was a natural version of an energy drink.

I have considered an IV of caffeine at times. Energy drink, coffee, Mountain Dew with extra syrup, I will drink it.

But this was no energy drink. It was Kombucha Tea. I had no idea what it was, but it tasted like vinegar flavored juice. Not exactly a thirst quencher. Then as we went on shopping, I experienced something that made me want to research this as soon as I got home.

I found my validation in a Wikipedia article:

Aside from any possible health benefits, many users report a subtle but definite perceptual shift after consuming kombucha. It is generally characterized by mild euphoria, relaxation, and an overall sense of physical and mental well-being.

So it was quite a bit more than an energy drink effect. The best I can explain was energy from attitude. Yes, there was energy. But it came from the fact that I had somehow changed my attitude from one of just so-so to one of "nothing can go wrong" and "I am really overly happy to be grocery shopping". I can deal with that and never quite experienced that combination before. Energy drinks don't touch it.

I am not one to jump on any colloidal silver, coral calcium, noni juice bandwagon but I am looking into this one further.

The commercial stuff is a little pricey to be drinking daily. But I am looking into brewing my own. It seems to be a simple process.

So how's that for a strange tangent off of my normal blog posts. But I haven't been thinking about blogging this weekend or technical details. I've been spending time with my wife, relaxing and playing with a new theme enough to give me my quota of "work". I picked up The 4-Hour Workweek on the trip and am reading that. And tomorrow starts the grind.
